Well, spring has finally come to Calgary, it seems like it’s going to stick around for a while. So I’ve been riding my bike to work a little more now (2 out of 5 days). Of course the first day that I rode, it was raining pretty solidly. It looks like that might happen again [...]

Breaking Bones
I recently (Tuesday) broke a bone in my left hand while snowboarding. It’s amazing how much you miss having the use of two hands. In the cafe, I’ve been relegated to working the till, non-stop; the only position that doesn’t require two hands and it still takes me longer than normal. Only 3.5 – 7.5 [...]

Pork Six Ways
Tonight Kevin from Knifewear and Steph from Farm put together the Pork Six Ways class at The Cookbook Company Cooks. I’m not in the class, but I did get the opportunity to check out the wine pairings. Plus, they made sure to bring us some of their amuse-bouche, bacon caramel pecan popcorn. We’re on our [...]

The Follower

New Job
Well, I’ve been enjoying my new job… I’m just over half finished my second week, and it’s looking pretty good. It’s nice to be a Barista again… and not the kind of “barista” that works for the big green mermaid. I’ve been noticed by a few people that have seen this blog… everybody [...]

Where I’m At
I had at one point decided that I was going to name my eventual coffee shop “Uprising Coffee”. This was in direct response to the necessity of a revolution. Especially in this city, most people don’t know or care that they’re being given a low quality product that’s masquerading as the highest quality [...]

Suprises!!!
Today I came in to work and found a few surprises to greet me. Sitting by the counter was a lovely new Reg Barber Tamper. And then I noticed the brand new latte art steaming pitchers of various sizes… including a couple of 12oz. pitchers. Such an exciting day.

The Perfect Birthday Gift.
Today I received a birthday gift from my friends in Portland… a Stumptown Gift Certificate. They said it’s to “encourage” me to come visit them soon. So I guess I’m going to plan for next month some time so I can hit Vancouver on the way and try out the new Brazil Cup [...]

The Makings Of A Good Ending
I had been thinking of writing a bit of a rant about customers this evening… but just before close, someone came in and ordered an espresso. And they sat at the bar to talk… and drink a ristretto and then an 8ozish latte. It made my day to have someone appreciate the making [...]
